Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival

I'm heading home. Well, not actually "home", but a place as close to that feeling of home as anywhere in the world. I spent large chunks of my childhood in Black Mountain and Old Fort with family who lived in the area. To put a finer point on it, in the summer of 1999, I was a camp councilor at Camp Grier. It was one of the most formative summers of my life, and for the first time in 26 years, I'm returning to camp to do several things near and dear to me: run, and help with the rebuild from Hurricane Helene. I plan to run for 6 hours on December 6th this year as part of the Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival at Camp Grier.

Help me in my effort to raise money for the Old Fort Strong Fund. This fund is dedicated to helping support community members in Old Fort who have lost their homes or had significant damage to their homes and will not receive any help to pay for rebuilding from insurance.  Due to the massive flooding that took place outside of historic flood zones, many homes did not have flood insurance to cover this cost.  In total 50+ homes were lost in McDowell County alone.  The goal is to raise $2,000,000 from this event alone to help in this cause.  All donations will go directly to helping those in need in our community.
