In 2020, our office lost Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller in the line of duty. I worked closely with Damon, and I was lucky to call him a friend.
After his passing, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation stepped in and supported his family like they have done for so may other families.
This year, a group of us from Santa Cruz, are heading to New York to take part in the Tunnel to Towers stair climb at One World Trade Center.
We’re climbing under the team name “Sam Two Three,” Damon’s call sign.
The climb is 104 stories. It’s a challenge, but it’s nothing compared to the sacrifices this foundation represents. It’s a chance to honor those who gave their lives and to support the families they left behind.
The foundation was inspired by Stephen Siller and William F. Burke Jr., who gave their lives on 9/11 helping others.
For us, this climb is about continuing that support and making sure families like Damon’s are taken care of.
All donations go directly to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which continues to support families of fallen first responders and military members.
If you are able to contribute, we appreciate it.
