It's been over 40 years since I have done any open water swimming. My college swim coach was a retired marathon swimmer and would often invite team members to join him in a 'short' swim in Lake Michigan. Those swims could be as long as 4 miles, and I loved every minute! Sadly, I didn't continue those swims after I graduated.
Fast forward 42 years and a few moves across the states, I landed in Jackson, MI in 2024. I started swimming at the YMCA and that is where I learned about the Mighty Mac swim. I was immediately excited to participate.
Sometimes I feel like I'm crazy for attempting this swim after so many years, especially since I've only been training for 10 months, but, on July 25th, I am determined to give it everything I have to step out of the water and cross the finish line.
The greatest incentive to participate in this event is the cause - The First Responders of Michigan. Those HEROES give so much of their lives to help others, and I am honored to raise funds to support them. Please show your support for my quest by donating to this noble cause.
