I work for Water For People — an international nonprofit working to end the global water crisis. What's the crisis? Globally, one in four people lack access to safely managed drinking water. And two in five people lack access to safely managed sanitation services.
I'm committing to walk 6km — approximately 3.7 miles — every day for one month* from my home, down to the Missouri River, and back. Coincidentally, it's the same distance that women in low and middle-income countries walk each day on average to fetch water for their household.
Except, I won't be hauling heavy containers of water back home with me. And my walk will end after 30 days.
When I walk, I'll be thinking of the people who inspire me to work in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector. Women like Carmen in Honduras, whose story of carrying water in a clay jar balanced on her head when she was a little girl has stuck with me....along with the images of women who continue to walk every day to fetch water.
Carmen ended her walk for water. Let's end the walk for water for all girls and women. Please donate to my fundraiser.
*Starting Friday, September 11, 2026 and ending Sunday, October 11, 2026 — the final day of the World Water Classic.
