Ken and Al Becken were often considered to be the co-founders of SARR. Ken's 90th birthday would have been sometime next month. Funeral arrangements are pending but will probably not be held until February.
Ernest Oakes, a contemporary of Ken Bashore, provided some details of Ken's service to SARR:
"All of us that were around in the early years considered Ken and Al Becken to be the co-founders of SARR after their interaction with Dr. Ken Cooper at LAFB Wilfred Hall. Throughout the 70s they were the glue that held us together. Ken served as the President from the first year(1973) to 1982 thus making him our(SARR) longest serving President, plus he was membership chairman for most of that period. They were the perfect team. We really only had 4 “formal” positions, Ken filled two and Al B. filled the other two as SARR Newsletter editor/publisher and treasurer. Not sure when we started having elections, but I don’t recall ever having voted for anyone in the 70s. I think that we just discussed it and assumed Ken and Al would keep doing all the jobs. Both workaholics, knowledgeable on many subjects, and never met a stranger. We were truly blessed."
