This past year has been challenging to say the least. November 13, 2024 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). Thank Gd, the cancer had not spread and my oncology team was quick to act with a course of treatment.
Unfortunately, TNBC is one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer and has a high rate of recurrence, because of that my treatment has also been aggressive. I have successfully completed 8 rounds of chemo and immunotherapy. AND THE RESULTS ARE GOOD!! The medicine and all of the prayers have worked in my favor. My cancer is no longer detectable in my scans and this is really great news. I still have a long journey ahead of me with surgery, possible radiation and more immunotherapy. The next 5 years of my life will also be monitored very closely to make sure that the cancer does not return (Gd forbid) and if it does that we catch it quickly to act fast again.
I have changed my lifestyle and made some serious changes to food habits and work habits, prioritizing sleep and relaxation, and eating clean and healthy foods! My family has been amazing and incredibly supportive. My husband and children have been my cheerleaders and inspiration/motivation the whole way. You wouldn't believe the amazing pictures I get to receive daily from my daughter and the hugs and squeezes from my son. The best reason for living till 120! Beyond that there have been so many amazing communities of support, my work, synagogues, children's schools and more!
One of the communities of support has been an organization called Sharsheret. In my professional work at de Toledo High School, I have brought this organization to campus many times before my personal diagnoses. They help spread awareness and are supportive to women and men facing breast cancer and women with ovarian cancer. This year, I want to also help spread awareness about Sharsheret so that they can continue doing the amazing work that they do. (Including offering grants to those financially struggling, resources from nutritionists to help with advocating for health care, and so much more.)
I've created a team and will be walking at their annual "Sharsheret West Coast Dash." It is Sunday, September 14, 2025 and I'd love for you to walk with me. Additionally, I hope to raise money to support Sharsheret so that they can continue the good work they do! I get that a 5K isn't for everyone, you can also come to cheer us on, walk virtually, or support financially.
