The SCARS Charleston Hurricanes Wheelchair Basketball Team is teaming up with I GOT LEGS on their Firecracker Virtual 5K Run to raise funds for our upcoming season! We are the only wheelchair basketball team within 100 miles of the Charleston area playing in the NWBA. We play teams throughout the Carolinas.
Our program mission is to provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to develop independence, confidence, and fitness through participation in wheelchair basketball and other recreational and educational programs. Currently our program supports approximately 20 athletes over the course of the season. While Wheelchair Basketball is the primary activity, our members also participate in archery, tennis, billiards, bowling, fishing and boating.
The Charleston Hurricanes is a wheelchair basketball team for the tricounty area and beyond. The team competes in the Carolina Conference that includes eight other teams scattered throughout the North and South Carolina area, including Raleigh, Charlotte, Myrtle Beach, Columbia and Spartanburg. All teams are part of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association that currently has one hundred eighty one teams around the country.
Over the years our program has been instrumental in highlighting to not only the participants, but others as well that nothing is impossible, and we encourage everyone to actively participate in life’s adventures. We hope that you will support our efforts to ensure that we remain a viable and active program in the Charleston area.
