Pedal the Cause

I have been an avid cyclist for over 40 years, and this will be my second year riding in Pedal the Cause.

I ride in memory of my beloved wife, Jan, who passed away at the end of February 2023 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. We were blessed with 49½ years together—just two months shy of our 43rd wedding anniversary.

Jan was the love of my life. A devoted mother, grandmother, and a friend to so many.

Last year, I set out to raise $1,000. Through the incredible generosity of family, friends, and colleagues, we raised $3,000. I am deeply grateful to everyone who made that possible.

This year, my goal is to meet—and hopefully exceed—that $3,000.

What began as something deeply personal has grown into something even more meaningful. Like so many others, cancer has touched my life in more ways than one—I also lost a cousin to lung cancer.

More importantly, I’m continuing something deeply personal—honoring Jan’s memory by helping others in the fight against cancer.

This effort is not just about me. It’s about all of us who have been impacted in some way, and about supporting research that brings us closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
