30 years ago, I took a leap during Pediatric Oncology Training, to volunteer one week at a new Cancer Camp across the country in Montana. I ended up staying three weeks that summer, spent the entire following summer at camp, and moved to Montana six months later.
There is magic in Montana. There is magic at Montana. Watching individuals who feel alone in through the cancer journey and become part of a vibrant community was a defining moment in my life. Though I have been lucky enough to take many turns and have many chances, bringing me across the country and the world, One quarter of my life has been spent in Camp Mak-A-Dream Leadership, half of my years have had Camp and Montana in my heart. And since I first crossed the rainbow bridge in 1996, Camp has served over 10,000 individuals affected by cancer.
Though it is hard to believe, this year I turn 60. And in those 60 years, my proudest professional accomplishments have been with Camp Mak-a-Dream. Please help me celebrate. $15 for my 15 cumulative years with camp; $30 for Camp Mak-A-Dream, or $60 for my 60 years. Every dollar makes a difference. Every dollar provides joy. Every dollar provides community. Every dollar changes a life.
