Join in on the FUNraiser to bring awareness and support for Ben’s Lighthouse programming! I've been a volunteer and even a staff member of Ben's Lighthouse since it started.
Ben's Lighthouse was founded in honor of 6 year old Ben Wheeler, full of energy, love and light (and a dash of mischief), who lost his life at Sandy Hook School on December 14, 2012. Benny and his family attended the church where I worked. Ben would sit at my feet almost every Sunday with his big brother in children's liturgy. I taught for more than 10 years and also played the piano at Sandy Hook School where Benny and Nate went and Nate was in the 4th grade chorus concert the night before. I ruffled Benny's hair while I chatted with his mom, Francine at that concert.
Ben's Lighthouse's mission drives us to foster all children’s potential to build a more compassionate and connected world. Ben’s Lighthouse offers The Isle of Skoo™ program, that helps kids and teens develop empathy, self-awareness and social connection. The lighthouses that Ben loved provide the perfect metaphor that guides our work. Through music, puppetry and mentorship, participants are encouraged to find and share their own light – to stand tall and shine bright!
Please consider supporting Ben’s Lighthouse, a signature charity of the Fairfield Road Races. Ben’s Lighthouse strives to offer programming at no cost to participants, making them accessible to all. Your generosity will help make that possible.
I am not a runner - I have never been a good runner. I have always run this race just because I believe in the work and purpose of Ben's Lighthouse and because I love the Wheeler Family and all the Sandy Hook School families. Please consider donating to my race fundraiser. Your donation will make me run longer and better because I so appreciate your support of Ben's Lighthouse.
Thank you and Shine On!
