Ruth's Journey: February 2019 marked a seismic shift in our world. At 3:21 pm on 2/20/2019, Ruth Eleanor Kramer entered our lives, but within minutes, it was evident that something wasn't right. Whisked away for assessment, I assumed a brief intervention, just some oxygen, and she'd be back in my arms. It was far more dire.

Diagnosed with transposition of the great arteries (TGA), Ruth faced a critical condition requiring urgent transport to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. In those harrowing moments, I said an unexpected goodbye, surrounded by medical chaos. Tubes and uncertainty filled the room. Michael accompanied her, and I was left in the wake.

The initial hours are a blur, void of records or photos. No footprints, no official birth length. Yet, it's okay because the medical teams focused on one mission: saving her life. At 6:38 pm, Ruth underwent a balloon atrial septostomy, the lifesaving procedure that brought color to her tiny body. The battle wasn't over; her body underwent cooling for 72 hours, fearing potential brain damage.

One month old, Ruth faced open-heart surgery, conquering it with resilience. Setbacks ensued, numerous hospital readmissions, but with time, she triumphed over medical complications. Now, 5.5 years old, she embodies a "heart-healthy" miracle.

Her infectious smile lights up rooms, precious giggles resonate, and a determined spirit, instilled by two big sisters, propels her forward. From a fighter at birth, she now contends for toys, not life.

Today, we celebrate the life modern medicine granted her. Gratitude to medical heroes, prayer warriors, and support groups who navigated us through the storm. Ruth, our little warrior, continues to amaze, embodying strength and resilience beyond her years. 💖✨ #BabyRuth #ModernMedicine #GratefulHeart
