TEAM JIMMY
On Saturday, June 14, 2025 Christopher and I will be participating in the Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K Race/Walk to Cure ALS for our 17th year. We are taking part in this race in memory of Jimmy Armstrong, my husband and Jimmy Jones, Chris's dad, who both bravely fought this disease.
Jimmy Armstrong was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 34. We were married for only 8 months before Jimmy was diagnosed. We fought this disease for the remainder of our marriage. At a young age Jimmy raced go-carts. As stories have been told he was the best and never afraid of speed. Later in his life he took up mountain biking. Jimmy was a quiet mannered and very motivated even at a young age. Right out of high school he opened up his own company and kept it going for 13 years even throughout his fight with ALS. ALS took everything away from Jimmy. He was not able to walk, eat, or even take care of himself. Jimmy continued to have a positive attitude throughout his battle with ALS. No matter how bad or how hard the day, week, hour or month was Jimmy would always reply to anyone who asked, " how are you, "perfect, perfect." On June 11, 2007, at the age of 36, Jimmy's fight with ALS came to an end.
Jimmy Jones at the age of 59, after working 37 years in Local 17 and being 6 months to his retirement he was diagnosed with ALS. Jimmy was the proud dad of two sons and the grandfather of five, all of whom were his pride and joy. Jimmy was an avid softball player to the age of 55. His soul reason for retiring was to spend time with his grandchildren and his family. Jimmy was eldest of eight and the patriarch of the Jones family. Jimmy's major concern was to make sure that his wife, Lianne and her two boys, would be taken care of. He never once complained or asked why he had to fight this battle with ALS. On April 10, 2003, Jimmy's courageous battle with ALS ended.
This event raises money towards a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative illness that attacks motor neurons. When motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to control muscle movement is lost leading to atrophy and paralysis.
In these economic times, I know how difficult it is to donate to every worthy charity. Every dollar donated will be used solely for medical research and can truly bring us closer to a cure. Please help me towards the attainable goal of finding a treatment or cure for ALS in our lifetime! EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!! Any donation of any amount is greatly appreciated and can be made online by clicking the Support Us Now button above, or if you prefer, please make check out to: The Angel Fund and mail it to me. I will add any mailed in donations on to my site as well.
Remember when you register to look for TEAM JIMMY.
