Story

It's that time of year! It's time for the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments Run for Sight. We share Will's story each spring with the goal of inspiring you to not let anything stop you from achieving your goals. If there's a WILL there's a WAY!  We have WILL POWER!

At 4 months of age, Will was diagnosed with bilateral optic nerve hypoplasia and nystagmus. At the time it was thought that he could have very limited vision. We soon found out he was visually tracking well. He did however have a null point that was straight down (he brought his chin to his chest to minimize his nystagmus), so he endured multiple eye surgeries to correct this at a young age. We also learned that bilateral optic nerve hypoplasia is more than just a visual concern. He had a brain MRI within days, and we learned ONH is a diagnosis that brings along with it many other possible challenges. Some of the challenges Will continues to fight include his pituitary gland being affected by his ONH resulting in adrenal insufficiency. He has some sensory processing challenges, absence seizures, and still has a null point that requires him to tilt/turn his head when reading.   He doesn't let any of this stop him. He's an avid reader, a passionate ice hockey player, soccer player, basketball player, golfer, and violinist. Most importantly he's a thoughtful, loving, and caring 12 year old with big dreams.

Up until the age of 3, Will received vision therapy services through the Delta Gamma Center and we are forever grateful for the early intervention. We are excited to help raise funds to support crucial services for local kids with visual impairments. Run for Sight benefits the Delta Gamma Center and supports children who are blind or visually impaired in reaching their full potential. Your support provides children and families what they need: from in-home education and therapy services for babies and toddlers to group recreational and development opportunities for youth through high school.

Please join me in supporting this amazing cause! Unfortunately, we will be unable to attend the run this year due to being out of town for a soccer tournament, but we still appreciate your support! Thank you for joining our team of superheroes and helping  kids see possibilities!
