THE RACE

The Coastal Carolina Memorial 5K and Kid's Fun Run will be in memory of the crew of Yanky 72, which included the Marine Corps KC-130 aircrew and Marine Special Operations Sailors and Marines.

The missions of The Wingman Foundation are to support families in the immediate aftermath of the mishap and continuing to remember those air warriors we have lost to Navy and Marine Corps aviation mishaps.

SHIRTS:
Participants who register by March 10, 2026 get a race shirt in their preferred size. The race will order a few extras. If you register after March 10th, you can choose from remaining inventory.

FINISHER MEDAL: 
All finishers receive a medal at the finish line.

THE COURSE

 

Union Point Park
New Bern, NC 28560

The race course is mostly flat with cobblestone and roads as the primary path. It begins at Union Point Park, winds along the river to the north around the National Cemetery, and back to Union Point Park.

 There will be signs, volunteers, and bikers leading the way.

This race is Stroller Friendly, Wheelchair Friendly and Dog Friendly

All 5K and 1 Mile finishers receive a medal at the finish line.

THE CAUSE

In the immediate aftermath of a military aviation mishap, The Wingman Foundation (TWF) steps in to provide the necessary assistance to the affected service members and their families.

TWF makes funds available to help with family expenses such as funeral, travel, and lodging costs. Since its founding in late 2014, TWF has been able to support every single Class A (fatal) mishap in the Navy and Marine Corps in some way.

The support does not stop there. Any additional funds can be used by the family or squadron even many years afterward to continue honoring their Sailor's or Marine's legacy.
