Walking in support of Friends of Aphasia

Aphasia is a language disorder that robs individuals of their ability to speak, understand, read, and write. It is caused by damage to the language areas of the brain. Typically, it results from a stroke, but it can also be caused by a traumatic brain injury, a brain tumor, a brain infection, or brain degeneration.

Imagine struggling to say your own name, to write a simple email, or to read the newspaper. These are realities for individuals living with aphasia. It is a frustrating and isolating disorder.

Friends of Aphasia offers conversation and activity group sessions in-person at our office in Tucson, as well as online, virtually. The goal of all our sessions is to foster group communication and socialization. Their aphasia groups are explicitly offered to help people with aphasia improve and regain communication skills and to build community with others who not only can fully relate, but are also supportive, non-judgemental and encouraging.
