First, we hope you and your family are staying safe through the current pandemic. While we are used to seeing your smiling faces at our annual BYOT 5K & Fun Run in October, we have opted to play it safe for this year and virtually CHALLENGE you to get out and get active as a whole family. We have included a little friendly competition between schools to keep things fun, while social distancing of course! We all feel a little better when we exercise regularly - but sometimes we need a little extra motivation and accountability to get out the door (or on the bike, or up to dance in your living room). We suggest setting a personal goal for yourself for minutes of daily activity! We suggest starting with a goal like 30 (1000 min. over 1 month), 45 (1500 min. over 1 month), or 60 min. a day (2000 minutes over 1 month) - and give yourself that extra push to keep moving. Anyone can do it - the only thing you are giving up is a binge season of your favorite Netflix show! Physical activity of any kind is great for the heart and mental health! That's right, you can: run, walk, bike, hike, skateboard, roller blade, yoga -- whatever gets you up and moving! We suggest making your minutes count by being intentional with this challenge and not counting your steps or time at work. Even better, take the iChallenge with your whole family and enjoy time together!
Once you register you will be emailed instructions on how to log your minutes of activity - each time you log your activity your results page will show your cumulative time! You can do any physical activity of your choice, inside or outside as long as you log the minutes! We will have a live leader board at the RESULTS page for you to see how you place among the other participants daily! We ask that you join our Facebook group and tag any of your photos on social media with the #BYOTchallenge so we can follow along!
All Participants will receive a shirt by mail to your door! We will begin shipping the last week of October! All made in the USA! All minutes of activity must be submitted at your unique results page each day or each time you complete an activity (you can enter activity from previous days or whatever is convenient for you!).
**Disclaimer: Please do not run on unsafe roads, or areas that have been closed off to the public. Practice social distancing and any other requirements set forth by local, state and federal guidelines. Over 2000 families in Forsyth County do not have Internet in their homes. With so much of the schoolwork requiring online access, we want to make a difference in the lives of those who do not have the same privileges as others. In seven years, the Forsyth BYOT Benefit has raised over $350,000 to put internet in the homes and devices in the hands of students without them. This has been accomplished through the efforts of our sponsors, golfers, runners and volunteers.
"Last spring, the pandemic forced our school system to go 100% online instruction. If not for the all the contributions to the Forsyth BYOT Benefit over the years, we would not have been able to meet the needs of all of our students. Over the years, the Forsyth BYOT Benefit has raised more than $350,000. This huge sum of money has enabled us to purchase devices and connectivity for families in need. We needed it last spring more than ever. We need it just as much now. As we enter a new school year that is fraught with uncertainty, we must be prepared. ‘Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.’ Forsyth County Schools will be ready for any scenario. Unfortunately, we are not able to have our annual Irun this fall. That does not mean we don’t have needs. We do. I ask all who can, to please contribute. Your donations help us meet the demands of our most vulnerable population. We are all in this together. And, together, as a community, we must meet the needs of all of our children. Thank you for your continued support of the Forsyth BYOT Benefit and Forsyth County Schools." -- Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bearden
