Description

The Baby-Sitters Club is about a group of friends who live in the fictional, suburban town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. These friends run a local babysitting service called the "Baby-Sitters Club". The original four members were Kristy Thomas (founder and president), Mary Anne Spier (secretary), Claudia Kishi (vice-president), and Stacey McGill (treasurer), but the number of members varies throughout the series. The novels are told in the first-person narrative from the perspective of the character named in the title who will confront common problems such as illness, sibling rivalry, peer conflicts, jealousy, and parents' divorce and remarriage.

Club Rules

  1. Every job that comes along must be offered to all members of the club before someone takes it.
  2. Pick a hairbrush. Only whoever is holding the hairbrush can talk at that time.
  3. You must always greet a caller with, "Hello, this is the Baby-sitters Club, ______ speaking."
  4. Write down the address, phone number, and the age of your charges. Also take note of any special requests.
  5. If one sitter cannot make his/her charge another sitter must take his/her place.
  6. Keep an official notebook to record your problems and experiences with specific charges for other members to read/learn from.
  7. Maintain specific business hours for phone calls.
  8. Interview potential new members to make sure they're good baby-sitters.
  9. All decisions are made final by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the president will decide.
  10. If you're going to be late to a meeting, call ahead and let the other members know. Be considerate!
