Waiver

I agree that I am a member of Santa Fe Striders, (hereinafter “the club”), and I know that running in and volunteering for organized group runs, social events, and races associate with the club are potentially hazardous activities, which could cause injury or death. I will not participate in any club organized events, group training runs or social events, unless I am medically able and properly trained, and by my signature, I certify that I am medically able to perform all activities associated with the club and am in good health, and I am properly trained. I agree to abide by all rules established by the club , including the right of any official to deny or suspend my participation for any reason whatsoever. I attest that I have read the rules of the club and agree to abide by them. I assume all risks associated with being a member of the club and participating in all club activities, which may include but not limited to: falls, physical contact with other participants/members, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators including the potential the contraction of a communicable disease resulting from contact with other participants/members, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators. I assume all risks including: the effects of the weather; high heat and/or humidity; freezing cold temperatures; traffic and the conditions of the road including surrounding terrain. I further agree to abide by the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) recommendations for the prevention of the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and other communicable diseases, and I attest to having read the CDC’s guidance at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html. I assume all such risks being known, appreciated, and accepted by me. I understand that bicycles, skateboards, baby joggers/strollers, roller skates or inline skates, animals, and personal music players are not allowed in club organized runs or events, and I will abide by all rules of the club. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts and inconsideration of your accepting my membership, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Santa Fe Striders and the Road Runners Club of America, all club sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in the club activities, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or organizations named in this waiver. In addition, I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases and voluntarily assume the risk that I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 and/or other communicable diseases by participating in any activities associate with the club. I acknowledge that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and/or death. I understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 in connection with my participation in any club activities, and personally assume this risk. I grant permission to all of the foregoing to use my photographs, motion pictures, recordings or any other record of the club for any legitimate purposes. I understand that the club does not provide for refunds in the event of cancellations of services, and by signing this waiver, I consent that I am not entitled to a refund if the any club activities including events are cancelled.


Santa Fe Striders Code of Conduct


●     Always show respect to your fellow club members.


●     Always show respect and appreciation for the volunteers who give their time to help the club and/or event(s).


●     Never yell, taunt, or threaten physical violence upon another member of the club, a volunteer, event spectator, or any other person or animal in the vicinity of club activities.


●     Never use abusive or vulgar language, or make racial, ethnic, or gender-related slurs, or any sort of derogatory comments at club events. 


●     Never make unwanted sexual or physical contact with or comments to other members.


●     Members with a criminal history of violence or with a legal restraining order against them by another member may be barred from membership and participation in all club activities.


●     Members found to be listed on a sex offender registry, convicted of a sex crime, or caught having, creating, or distributing child pornography will be immediately barred from membership and all participation in club activities.


●     Always abide by race rules and engage in fair competition, which includes anti-doping compliance, no course cutting, or other means of gaining a competitive advantage that is considered cheating when participating in club races or other races where you may represent the club by wearing a club-branded singlet, shirt, uniform, etc.


●     If you believe a member to be in violation of the Code of Conduct and feel it is safe to provide specific, growth-oriented feedback, feel free to do–real-time, direct feedback is often most effective. 


●     Note that requirements for reporting incidents concerning youth athletes (children or minors under the age of 18) differ from those concerning adults.


    ○     Every adult who staffs or volunteers to organize, assist with, or manage any element of a SFS program or event where youth athletes participate is required to report suspicions of abuse to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and the SFS Board within 24 hours.


    ○     All adults working with youth are required to go through abuse prevention training annually.


    ○     No SFS adult volunteers or staff are permitted to be alone and otherwise unsupervised with a child who is not their own child during a SFS program or event involving youth.


●     Report any repeated and/or major violation of the Member Code of Conduct policy to the Board in writing (in email or physical copy).


●     How to report violations: Any member, volunteer, event spectator, or other person in the vicinity of club activities may submit a complaint about a member to the Santa Fe Striders via email at info@santafestriders.org


●     How the Santa Fe Striders Board will address complaints:  If a complaint is founded, and depending on the severity of the violation, the Board may follow an abbreviated process, conduct a full investigation, or work with an attorney or law enforcement to determine a course of action. If the Code violation seems like a minor issue, such as a complaint of foul language, the Board will adhere to the following procedure: 


■     Discuss the issue with the offending member and give them a verbal warning.  


■     The Board will document the warning, either through email or internal systems. 


■     If the problem persists, the Board will give the person a written warning (physical or electronic) that outlines how additional complaints may result in loss of membership or being barred from participating in club activities. 


○     If the Code violation is a more significant issue, the board will follow its formal Board Process for Addressing a Code of Conduct Complaint
