Deer Run Race Recap:

At this years Deer Run, the Lake Run Club added a three hour trail run in addition to the traditional 8K distance.  The week leading up to the Deer Run, was cold and several inches of snow fell on the trails at Timberpointe.  On race day, the temps hovered between 25-30 degrees with very little wind and the sun peaking through the clouds.

Lake Run Club also added a 4K division to "break the ice" and welcome anyone new to trail running.  The conditions challenged all who attended, however the trails were semi groomed with UTV's, Cross Country skiers and mountain bikes and traction was not an issue.  Several runners commented, that it felt like they were running in sand and did take additional effort to complete the course.

The Deer Run kickoff at 8:00, was lead out by a host of runners listed below. Alex Reed and Kyle Daugherty set the pace on the opening laps with just a few yards separating them.  They both ran consist lap times throughout the morning, and Trina McCarty lead out the ladies division also running a strong steady pace.  Slowly runners started to drop out, Lupe Martinez, nursing a sore leg was the first casualty and dropped. Todd Piazza called it a day after 5 laps, Rich Fela completed 6 laps and Alex Reed called it a day after 7 laps, but came back to start the 8K start line at 11 AM, and ran another two laps and finished 3rd in his age group!

The 4K Division, 12 year old Hudson Overberg took the overall male. 12 year old Quinn Dunsmore from Heyworth was the over female.

The 8K Division, Keaton North was first followed by Kenneth Albin. These two runners placed first and second place in 2024, with Kenneth edging out Keaton last year.  Close race between these two competitors.  Overall female was Aimee Dziekan from Bloomington.  Race Results.
