River to River Runners

Herrin, IL 62948 US

The River to River Runners Club was established in 1984 as an outgrowth of the Herrin Road Runners to promote running and fitness in Southern Illinois. Organizing and conducting quality running events has been the Club's primary goal since its inception. An equally important objective; however, is to encourage running as sport and healthful exercise, and to support activities which educate the community about the importance of physical fitness. To further these goals, the River to River Runners now boasts a membership of over 400 and includes individuals from ten different states.

It sponsors a wide variety of races and other running-related activities throughout the year, providing something for every member, no matter what age, sex, or running ability.

Best of all, camaraderie and mutual support remain the touchstones for River to River members.

Updates/Race Calendar

If you have noticed the club page looks different, that is because Runsignup is updating the way it works with running clubs. With the update comes some new things but we temporarily lose some of what we are used to. We will be updating the new page over time. We know our members like the race calendar. For now the best way to look for races is to search the runsignup homepage  or the So iLL Racing page. So iLL Racing

At the top of the runsignup page is the "find a race" box. Click on that and then go to the advanced search tab. Leave the event name empty and fill out the other fields to your liking and search. This will pull up all the races in that area.

The Last Boyscout

The next club event will be The Last Boyscout!!

The Last Boyscout is a Last Man Standing Race that utilizes the Boyscout Trail at Ferne Clyffe State Park. The format of this type of race is simple and designed to reward the tough, not necessarily the fast. All participants will receive a shirt and memorabilia to remember their efforts! Registration is capped at 75 runners. Leaving us some room to add runners later who are truly going for the win!!!

In this sixth year of the event, the winning distance is expected to be over 100 miles again!!! Can you do that. All you have to do is keep going. Just as return runners dig deep to best last years number, the number of race registrants increase, and the total number of yards increases. The 2021 race went 25 laps and was about resilience and continuing to push against a course that doesn't want you to succeed. Alone together after 13 yards was Lindsey Roberts and Christine Carter. They had made a prerace pact to make it to day two!!! . Together they did and became the first two runners to accomplish 100 miles at The Last Boyscout. Christine was satisfied with accomplishing her 100 mile goal and was done. After finishing her first day loop of the second day, Lindsey was crowned as The Last Boyscout. She is now a two time winner but the 25 lap course record still stands. While most runners meet or surpassed their goals, a few runners are not ready for the hills on the course. The 600 feet of climbing per loop will creep up on you.
