Frequently Asked Questions

When you say trail what do you mean?

In our area, the word trail can mean several things. For this program, we are referring to the dirt, non-paved, single-track trails found at several local parks. For a better idea of what these trails look like, check out this page on All Trails.

What if I don't have trail shoes?

No worries. We've got you. Each week, one of our partner shoe companies — Hoka, Brooks, Altra, and Saucony — will have trail shoes available to try!

How far are we running?

You are always welcome to go shorter or longer, but each week we will have a 3 to 4-mile route mapped out.

What if I can't make it all four weeks?

That's totally fine. Just come as much as you can!

What if I'm already a trail runner?

You can still sign up! Come, enjoy the trails, try the shoes, and encourage some of the newer trail runners!

What if I can't pay the $30?

Drop me an email at chris.miller@fleetfeet.com. We can work something out. 🙂

What if it rains?

We live in Kansas. That means the weather could be… literally anything. Unfortunately, if it rains, Johnson County closes most of the single-track trails. If this happens, we will find an alternative location to run or reschedule the run for another time.

Will there be any camping involved?

Absolutely not.

Are there bugs?

Sadly, yes. We'll have bug spray just in case you forget yours. We also suggest wearing a hat or some type of head covering as there are ticks in this area.

Are there bears?

We offer a money-back guarantee that each trail will be 99.99% bear-free. (You might be wondering, "How did they get that 99.99% number for the no-bear policy?" Our in-house mathematician crunched the numbers. There are currently 12 documented cases of bears traveling through the state of Kansas over the past 11 years. When you divide that number by the number of days in a year, the resulting value is 99.99%.)

Who are you?

I'm Chris from Fleet Feet! I've been a runner for over 30 years. About two years ago, I got bored of running roads and sidewalks and decided to do something crazy... I decided to try the trails. And I loved it. Since then, trail running has become my escape. It's my way of escaping from the craziness of the world around me. (I have a 14-year-old daughter who's obsessed with theater, so there's a lot of drama in my life.) My wife (Rachel) and I love hitting the trails whenever we get a chance!

What if you didn't answer my question here?

* You might be wondering, "How did they get that 99.99% number for the no-bear policy?" Our in-house mathematician crunched the numbers. There are currently 12 documented cases of bears traveling through the state of Kansas over the past 11 years. When you divide that number by the number of days in a year, the resulting value is 99.99% (Please note that "zoo runs" are not counted in these numbers.)
