The Challenged Athletes Foundation was created on the belief that people of all abilities should have the opportunity to pursue a life full of physical activity and of sports. Be they recreational or in pursuit of a gold medal at the Paralympic Games, people with a physical disability are limited only by their access to funding.
Since 1994, over $112 million has been raised and more than 26,000 funding requests from challenged athletes in all 50 states and over 70 countries supporting 103 different sports have been satisfied. CAF’s outreach efforts reach another 200,000 individuals each year. Whether it’s a $2,500 grant for a handcycle, helping underwrite a carbon fiber running prosthetic foot not covered by insurance, or making the introduction to a mentor who has triumphed over a similar challenge, CAF provides those with the desire to live active, athletic lifestyles every opportunity to compete in sports and physical activities.
Eighty cents of every dollar raised by CAF provides funding and programs that get challenged athletes into the game. (CAF has a Four-Star rating by Charity Navigator.)
