Special Olympics Bermuda, Registered Charity # 972, was formed with a mission to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition opportunities in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Through this, our athletes have continuous opportunities to develop their physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
13 Special Olympics Bermuda athletes had the opportunity to travel to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to participate in the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Bermuda successfully won 19 medals at the event. Next year Special Olympics Bermuda will again be represented by three athletes at the USA Games in Orlando, Florida. Additionally, in 2023, Special Olympics Bermuda anticipates traveling with 15-20 athletes for the quadrennial Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Berlin, Germany. Leading up to the Summer Games, athletes will engage in training, community engagement, social events and fundraising to ensure success in 2023. Funds raised at our events will be used towards these objectives.
