Who We Are and What We Do

FESPP (Friends of Eastern State Penitentiary Park) is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that develops and maintains the areas around Eastern State Penitentiary as green space for the local community and a recreation area for students of Bache-Martin Elementary School. (Home and school Association Website) Located in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia, Eastern State Penitentiary Park encompasses two parcels of land along the 2100 block of Brown Street and the 700 Block of Corinthian Avenue. The park includes a children’s playground, large lawn, and community garden with multiple recreation opportunities and individual garden plots.

FESPP provides fundraising support for the park, coordinates maintenance of the lawn and other areas, and coordinates with the City of Philadelphia and partner organizations. Our mission is to steward and maintain Eastern State Penitentiary Park for all, cultivating positive relationships and strong ties between residents of Fairmount, Francisville, and Spring Garden neighborhoods.
