Porter’s Story

Porter was diagnosed with KDM5C Disorder when he was 2 years old in 2015 at Cleveland Clinic.  Now Porter is 13 years old and going into 8th grade.

KDM5C is a master regulator gene that controls how other genes are turned on and off in our bodies, causing dysregulation in all parts of the body for a lifetime.  For Porter this ultra rare disorder causes nonspeaking autism, ADHD, challenging behavior, fine and gross motor delays, intellectual disability, high muscle tone, gastrointestinal issues, sleep difficulties, vitiligo, hypothyroidism, short stature and vision problems.  Despite these challenges Porter is one of the happiest kids you've ever met with the best personality and a great sense of humor!

The Cofer Family has formed Team Porter Proud to help raise funds for The KARES Foundation - please consider joining our team, donating or sponsoring today!  Locally we will be holding our in-person Porter Proud 5K on Saturday, September 26th at the Town of Ellery Park - please join us!
