My dad was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma in September 2024. The mass in his throat was so large that during his biopsy he required an emergent tracheostomy. My dad ended up having a total laryngectomy in November. It has been a battle, but he is fighting every single day! I met some truly incredibly people along the way and I can't thank everyone who has supported my dad, myself and my family enough over the last several months so now it is my turn to give back! Help me raise funds for those in OUR community!
The Nicole Podkowa 5k run/walk honors the memory of Nicole Podkowa. Nicole was an avid runner, mother of two, and the wife of Southcoast Health Physician John Podkowa. Nicole lost her battle with cancer in 2016. In her honor, Dr. Podkowa and his family established the Nicole Podkowa Patient and Caregiver's Assistance Fund at the Southcoast Health Centers for Cancer Care.
Proceeds raised through this event will support the Nicole Podkowa Cancer Patient and Caregiver’s Assistance Fund. This unique fund supports patients being treated at the Southcoast Health Cancer Centers and their families who are in need of financial assistance to help with utility payments, food, housing, transportation, cancer related supplies and other necessities.
