Camp! A time-honored summer tradition, whether it be Girl Scout, Boy Scout, YMCA or sports camp. Overnight or day camp. Children laughing, making new friends and learning new skills. Eating s’mores around a campfire while singing camp songs.
But…
Not all children can attend camp with their friends – they have health issues that make them too “complicated” or they are just too fragile. That’s where camps like North Star Reach come in. They provide programs that foster independence, resilience and personal growth, helping children and their families to see beyond the limits of their medical conditions and experience all that life can offer.
Amanda was able to attend summer camp three years at North Star Reach – and it became an important part of her life and continues to be important to our family. Amanda had to carry a pump that dispensed medication directly to her heart 24/7. As you can imagine that made her life a bit different than your “normal” teenager – but North Star Reach allowed her to be herself and to have friends that understood.
After she aged out of camp, Amanda was fortunate enough to be able to give back to camp by volunteering. She loved “her” campers. The friends she made at camp - -whether volunteers, campers or camp staff – were part of her “campily” sharing both happy times and awful times.
Please help us raise funds for North Star Reach as they work to build a sustainable future that can ensure the camp’s mission will have a lasting impact. Every donation – no matter the size – will help keep the campfires burning.
