Dear Family and Friends,
I’m honored to share that Cione’s Corps will once again be present at Heat It To Beat It 2026, with a team participating in her honor to support the incredible work of the Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy Medical Center. We are also proud that Cione’s Corps is serving as a sponsor of Heat It To Beat It for the second year in a row.
This cause is especially close to my heart. In the summer of 2015, my mom, Cione Johnson, was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. Within just two weeks of her diagnosis, she underwent HIPEC surgery and began an incredibly courageous fight against this disease. Through it all, she showed remarkable strength, resilience, and grace. After a long and hard-fought battle, we lost her in December 2019.
During her cancer journey, my mom was also found to be positive for the BRCA1 genetic mutation, which significantly increases the risk for both breast and ovarian cancer. Her diagnosis opened our eyes to the importance of genetic awareness, early detection, and access to information that can help save lives.
This year, in addition to raising funds and awareness, there will also be an effort to provide more education regarding BRCA1 and other cancer-related genetic mutations, overall cancer risks, updated screening recommendations, and resources on how and where individuals can pursue genetic testing and counseling. My hope is that sharing this information may help others better understand their own risks and empower families to take proactive steps toward prevention and early detection.
This past December, Lonnie—her husband, best friend, and devoted partner throughout her journey—joined her in heaven. Their love, strength, and unwavering spirit continue to inspire me every day.
In honor of their memory, I’m asking for your support as we continue to lift up my mom’s legacy through Cione’s Corps. Participating in this event is one meaningful way we can continue spreading hope, supporting families facing cancer, and helping ensure others receive the compassionate care and life-saving information that meant so much to our family.
If you’re able to contribute, I would truly appreciate your support. Every donation—no matter the amount—helps advance cancer care and provides comfort, education, and hope to those who need it most.
Making a donation is quick and easy through this page, and all contributions are tax-deductible. You can also learn more about the event and its mission at www.heatit.org.
Thank you so much for your kindness, encouragement, and support. It means more than words can express, and I look forward to sharing updates along the way.
With gratitude,
Monica
