FAQ's
There’s so much going on in the world right now. Why is prostate cancer still important?
One in eight American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and the funds raised are invested around the country to provide research for new treatments, free prostate cancer testing, and educate men and families about prostate cancer. Your fundraising provides assistance to cancer patients who are at a high-risk of contracting COVID-19 due to already weakened immune systems. Learn more about what ZERO is doing to help the prostate cancer community during this time at zerocancer.org/coronavirus.
How much of the funds raised go to patients in need? How are the donations used?
100% of donations go to ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer, a registered 501(c)(3) organization (tax id 59-3400922).
The money raised by the event helps drive free prostate cancer testing throughout the country. Grants are also awarded in communities wherever they’ll have the most local impact on new programs, patient support, early detection, and awareness efforts.
On a national level, your gift is invested to educate men about their risks, as well as to fund direct support for patients and their families. Finally, your dollars enable national efforts to protect and expand research funding and availability of care for prostate cancer testing and treatments. Additionally, funds raised during COVID-19 will help patients in dire need due to the economic and health consequences of the virus.
ZERO is the only national prostate cancer charity to receive the highest-possible 4-star rating for financial responsibility from Charity Navigator, and meets all 20 standards of accountability as an accredited charity member of the Better Business Bureau. And no other prostate cancer charity spends more per dollar on programs - more than 85 cents.
Are all donations tax-deductible? How can I receive an IRS tax receipt for my donation?
Yes. All monetary donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. If the donation was made online, the tax receipt will be emailed to the email address provided. If you donated via check, you can request a tax receipt by emailing teeoff@zerocancer.org.
I got an email saying I have a fundraising page after I registered. Is there a fundraising minimum to participate?
No. The only required fee is the sign up registration fee. There is no fundraising minimum, but we need your help to raise funds to provide programs that support prostate cancer patients and families in need during this dire time. Please consider making a self-donation or fundraise at least $100 to provide much needed support to men and families during COVID-19. We have set up personal fundraising pages for all that register to make collecting donations easy.
I created a fundraiser on Facebook for ZERO before registering for the Tee-Off. Can I connect that fundraiser to my Tee-Off fundraising page?
No. Participants must register on the ZERO Tee-Off website first, then create the Facebook Fundraiser from that login. We cannot tie an existing Facebook Fundraiser to a new registration. If you have already created a Fundraiser and selected ZERO as the beneficiary, donations will be sent to ZERO as general donations.
To request that donations be moved to credit your tee-off fundraising page, email teeoff@zerocancer.org. To begin receiving credit for new donations, please close your existing fundraiser and set up a new one through your RunSignUp Tee-Off login.
I don’t want to donate online. Can I donate another way?
We can take donations via the phone or via mail as well. Call ZERO at 202-303-3110, Monday Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. EST, and we can process a credit card payment over the phone. If mailing a check, please be sure to indicate the city name of the event, and the name of the team or individual whose fundraising efforts it is supporting. Checks should be sent to:
