Hey Sarcoma Sluggers,
It's crazy to me that two years ago, May 16, 2024, I was diagnosed with cancer. A million thoughts ran through my head that day, just as they sometimes do today. Things like
Uh, are you sure? Wanna check it again?
How will this impact my family?
What does the future look like?
Fine. Whatever. What do we have to do?
2 years. 18 radiation treatments. 3 surgeries on my leg (2 major, 1 minor). 6 whole body MRI's. Over a year of physical therapy. Learned to walk again, twice... well, honestly still working on it from my last surgery. However, a few things haven't changed - my outlook, my determination, my sense of humor, and my desire to make an impact in the sarcoma community.
The overall five-year survival rate for soft-tissue sarcoma is 66%. I plan on staying around a lot longer than 5 years. Seeing as I'm 2/5th's of my way to that 5 year mark, I figured now is as good as any time to add a little challenge for this years Sarcoma 5K. With sarcoma research being chronically underfunded, let's see if we can make a little ripple in the water and donate to continue the incredible work these amazing people do. 2 years in, let's also do something with that number. Any amount makes a difference - $2, $20, $22.
We look forward to seeing you September 13 at Wake Med Soccer Park for this years Race to Cure Sarcoma 5K
Thank you,
Bobby
