Team and Competitive Questions
Due to the limitations of the Woodlands site, we have a hard cap of 30 teams. To facilitate as many teams as possible, we will reach out to teams that have fewer than 6 participants by 9/1 will be asked to combine with other teams.
Possibly. To allow all clubs a chance to compete with a limited capacity, we are limiting each club to one team until after 8/3. If space still remains at that point, we allow clubs to add a second team provided their first team has more than 10 runners at that point.
With our new date, we have a little more flexibility around time. Please aim to have your team compete the marathon within 4 hours.
Your overall team times will be officially recorded. Each team should bring a stopwatch or other device to record your lap times. Boards on-site will be availalbe to track the number of miles your team has completed.
The course is mostly trail, with some areas that cover roots and other minor impediments. However, there is a significant section that follows the road in The Woodlands. To protect the grounds, spikes are not allowed.
The race rules are pretty simple. You will create a team roster of up to 13 people (but no fewer than 6). Runners will then run their one mile loops one at a time. Runners will hand off the team's baton from one runner to the next. After your full roster of runners has completed their first loop, you will start from the top and repeat. If you have fewer than 13 runners on your team, some of your runners will need to run more than two loops, so you should order your team appropriately so that the first runners are the ones that run the extra loop.
The Woodlands is open to the public and has limited parking. As such, each team can designate one car to bring heavy supplies, etc., and park near the race area. For all other runners, we encourage you to come in by bike, on the trolley (the 11, 13, 34, and 36 routes all stop at 40th Street, across the street), or carpool. Drivers can find parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Please leave ample time to walk to the start area if you are parking in the surrounding neighborhood, and do not attempt to park in the Woodlands if you don't have your team's parking pass.
Yes, the Carriage House bathrooms will be open and accessible throughout the event.
First thing's first: as the "props" reminders will make clear, this race is not that serious! A winner will be declared and you're encouraged to run your best race...but also, relax and have fun!
Cheating is pointless and lame. Don't do that.
Plan to run each runner an even number of laps (or as close as possible). Once all your runners have run one lap, start over at the top. The runner for your final 0.2 miles can be anyone on your team except the runner who ran your 26th mile.
If injuries or circumstances require you to run a runner out of order, you can, simply update your roster sheet to reflect this. Use your judgement and only make changes that are a necessity, not a strategy
Questions about fun
The 26x1 is one big party so we are not planning an official after-party for the event. We encourage you to bring some food and drinks to partake during the race. However, no cooking/grilling or open flames are allowed.
Yes it absolutely is! Dogs must be leashed at all times, but they are very welcome!
Yes. Please just share the area and make sure there is space for all teams.
Each team is required to have two props to complete their race.
The Baton: Each team must devise their own baton. It can be anything - a snap bracelet, a banana, a stick, a pompom, whatever. Your runners will hand this off between laps.
The Torch: Each team's champion will complete their 0.2 mile leg with a torch of their making. It cannot actually be on fire because we would like The Woodlands to let us come back.

Because the costs for this event are fixed, we cannot offer refunds for any reason. However, if you can no longer run, we recommend looking for someone interested in a transfer (details above).
The race will proceed in less-than-ideal conditions. However, we do have to be good stewards of the Woodlands and conscientious of runner safety. In the event of significant weather forcing a cancellation, the race will be moved to Sunday, 9/27. If neither date is possible due to weather, we will work with the Woodlands to attempt to reschedule when it's mutually possible. In severe weather conditions, it is possible the event could be cancelled without refunds.
