The Refuse to Use Program, developed by Stratton Mountain Resort and The Collaborative, supports and assists schools in their individual prevention plans. Stratton Mountain Resort’s, Riley Rink’s, Viking Nordic Center’s and the Dorset Theatre Festival’s generous commitment combined with oversight from The Collaborative, provides schools a real opportunity to offer students a tangible incentive to remain substance free. Students in RTU begin by taking a pledge to remain free from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Students then attend 5 out-of-school time prevention education events and receive a season pass to Stratton Mountain Resort, Riley Rink or Viking Nordic Center. These substance abuse prevention events are held at the participating schools and incorporated into the overall prevention plan designed by the school prevention staff.
Participating schools include: Long Trail School, The Dorset School, Manchester Elementary-Middle School, Maple Street School, Burr & Burton Academy, Flood Brook Union School, The Mountain School at Winhall, and Leland & Gray Union Middle & High School.
