Description

The Breaker to Breaker is a 5K BEACH RUN or WALK.  The race will begin at the Old Orchard Beach pier, run north and loop back to the starting point.   The race will take place at low tide when the sand is compact and the surface flat!  Please wear sneakers that you don't mind getting wet!

 

RACE TIME:   8:00am

Sunday, August 12th    6:30am - 7:45am    Entrance to Old Orchard Beach Pier at the end of Old Orchard Street 

 

There are many GREAT PERKS to participants in this race:

-  the first 100 registrants receive a free t-shirt!

-  any athlete who raises over $200 will have his or her registration fee refunded! (Sign up under "Become a Fundraiser" during registration)

-  the venue is a beach!  (where the surface will be hard and flat!)

-  you can dive into the ocean when you finish!  (ahhh...)

-  Shipyard Beer will be providing coupons for 2 free beers!  

 

All profits from the race will benefit Partners for World Health, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 in Portland, Maine whose mission is to collect unused medical supplies from local medical facilities and to distribute them to international communities in need. This work limits the negative impact on our local environment and provides much-needed resources to the developing world. To support this work in improving health conditions around the world, Partners for World Health sends local medical personnel on medical missions to developing countries and educates the local Maine community about global health issues. 

 

RACE INFORMATION

Directions:

Take I-95S
Take Exit 36 for I-195 toward Saco/Old Orchard Beach.
In 3 miles, continue onto Ocean Park Road
Take slight left onto Saco Ave
Go 1 mile and turn right onto Union Ave
Go .6 miles and turn left onto W Grand Ave
Go .6 miles and turn right onto Old Orchard Street
Old Orchard Beach Pier is 250 feet ahead

 

Registration Area:

At the entrance to Old Orchard Beach Pier.  This is at the end of Old Orchard Street at a cul-de-sac

 

Parking Options:

All municipal parking is free until 10:00. 

  • Many spots on streets near the Pier 
  • Veteran's Memorial Park on 1st St (second street up from the pier on the left)
  • Milliken Street Parking Lot, 76-98 Milliken Street (Don't confuse with George's Parking at 14 Milliken Street which is a paid lot).
  • Directions from Milliken Street Parking Lot:  .3 mile walk.  Exit parking lot, turn right. Walk down to the main street, Old Orchard Street, and turn left. Go one block to the end of Old Orchard Street and you will see the Registration Area.

W. Grand Ave, 1/2 block from Registration Area

 

Water:

There will be water at the 1-mile mark (which is also the 2-mile mark) and at the start/finish. 

 

Awards:

The awards ceremony will be held at 9:15 in the Registration Area.

 

Food:

There will be watermelon and other snacks in the Registration Area after the race.

 

Beer Coupons:

All participants over the age of 21 will receive a coupon for a flight of beer at the Shipyard Tasting Room on 86 Newbury Street in Portland.  No expiration date.
