15th Street Flyers
It was the spring of 1999, and two friends would often get together to run the neighborhoods of Covington. Their route took them down 15th Street, a somewhat busy road with no shoulder or sidewalk. That spring, the City of Covington began construction on a blacktop path that led all the way from Hubie Gallagher Park into River Forest subdivision. The Idea was born while the foundations of the path were still being laid. The day the path was completed was the first meeting of the Fifteenth Street Flyers. It just made sense! Our first official run/walk was born on Tuesday, May 4, 1999 and included nine people and two dogs. Three years, and a nice pavilion later, we have seen several hundred different folks join the fun. Weekly on Tuesday afternoons at 6:00pm from Hubie Gallagher Park. Some come and go, but once you are a Flyer, you are always a Flyer. We have always strived to be an integral part of the community and we will continue to help with park improvements and contributions to youth programs. We have also maintained a friendly, social, family atmosphere at all of our gatherings. Come be a part of our history and join the fun! Join our Facebook Group for more regular content and information! The 15th Street Flyers is a Road Runners Club of America IRS 501(c)3 nonprofit group exemption verified member, and the club, its partners, sponsors and community groups support and produce the annual 4 on the 4th road race community event each year on Independence Day from Hubie Gallagher Park.
