The mission and vision of The Wanda Alston Foundation is to eradicate homelessness for LGBTQ youth and young adults in the District. The Wanda Alston Foundation is the first and only housing program in Washington DC that is solely dedicated to offering pre-independent, safe and affirming shelter to LGBTQ youth ages 16-24 who are experiencing homelessness. Since 2008, Wanda Alston Foundation has worked to improve the lives of LGBTQ youth by providing shelter, case management, life skills training, connection to medical and mental health services, support with finding or retaining employment and support with completing or returning to school. We serve LGBTQ youth from all 8 wards and we proudly operate our facility in Ward 7. For over ten years, we have provided services to hundreds of the city's most vulnerable LGBTQ youth. We work tirelessly to build a community of collaboration, equity and support for our LGBTQ youth who are experiencing homelessness.
