Courtney (Everman) Hughett, the owner of the Martin County Journal, has been in the newspaper business since 1998 when she went to work for the Brown County Democrat newspaper at the age of 20. She quickly discovered her love for graphic design and, later on, her love for government reporting. Since that time she has worked for the Washington Times-Herald, The Loogootee Tribune, and The Shoals News. Courtney has won 13 awards from the Hoosier State Press Association including one which gave her the honor of best black and white ad of all newspapers in the state, daily and non-daily. In 2000, Courtney's last year with The Democrat, it was named the third best weekly newspaper in the nation. Joshua Hughett is Courtney's husband and co-owner of the Journal, and is also helping, wherever needed, with covering sports or events around the community. Josh is employed full-time at Jasper Engines & Transmissions and is an avid hunter. Josh also loves archery and has competed in the IBO (International Bowhunters' Organization) World Championship three times and has qualified more an a dozen.
