John Wilz was all too familiar with the pain of losing a child; children in his case. When Carter died, John was there for us with a compassion and understanding borne of his own journey. Sometimes it was just the squeeze of a shoulder. Other times, he’d say, “kiddo, I know that look”. Nothing more was required. We were immediately surrounded by his love, compassion and understanding. We are forever grateful for John’s willingness to open his heart to help support us in one of the most difficult times of our lives.
When we started the memorial fund and hosted the annual Carter’s Legacy 5k run/walk to raise money for the memorial fund, John and Rechel were always supporting our efforts. After John passed, Rechel approached us with the idea of donating the proceeds from John’s celebration of life to Carter’s memorial fund. We are honored and humbled to help carry on John’s memory in this way. We know he cared deeply for families and kids in Martin County. It’s hard to find the words….we miss you, buddy. You had a heart of gold.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the 5k and/or who has donated to the Carter Lee Kerns Memorial Fund. All the organizations we have supported have expressed such gratitude for your generosity. Thank YOU for your support!
We attended the celebration of life for our dear friend, John Wilz. John and Rechel Wilz had discussed his wishes and decided that all money raised would be donated to support children in Martin County by donating it to Carter’s Legacy. A total of $841 was donated!
Thank you John and Rechel for your beautiful hearts.
