The Crescent City Classic Foundation is honored to collect funds in memory of Mac Devaughn and his lasting legacy.
We mourn the passing of Mac DeVaughn, founder of the Crescent City Classic, who in 1979 had a vision that forever changed the running community in New Orleans. His dedication and leadership helped turn the race into a true New Orleans tradition—one that brings people together across neighborhoods, generations, and even nations.
At the height of the Cold War, Mac helped bring international runners, including athletes from the Soviet Union, to New Orleans—making the Crescent City Classic one of the first races to connect people across cultural and political divides.
Because of Mac D, the Crescent City Classic is more than a race; it’s a celebration of community, culture, and perseverance. His legacy lives on every time runners take that starting line.
