Dear Family & Friends,
After 3 virtual years due to Covid, B’H the JCN5K race is back in person and we will be walking/running at the Baltimore Zoo. I am participating and I am hoping to raise money for the Jewish Caring Network, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, formed in 1996 in order to meet the growing needs of the Baltimore Jewish community but it extends beyond Baltimore. Many families stay in the Tikva House while their loved ones are being treated at Johns Hopkins.
The mission of the Jewish Caring Network is to provide support services to families diagnosed with a life-threatening, lifelong, or serious illness while preserving the family’s privacy and dignity. It is their hope that through our programs and services, we are able to enrich our families’ lives, providing support, strength and the knowledge that the Jewish community is standing by them throughout the duration of their difficult time.
All of the programs and services they provide are free of charge. Each family’s situation is individually assessed, enabling them to cater to their specific needs. All of the services they provide are free of charge and include, but are not limited to the following: nursing care funds, respite care, Big Brother/Big Sister programs, Sunday Funday program, summer camp assistance, groceries and prepared meals, tutoring, birthday and holiday gifts, counseling & grief counseling.
When serious illness strikes, the entire family is affected. The Jewish Caring Network’s programs, activities, and services are designed to help each family member. When families feel overwhelmed and alone, the Jewish Caring Network reaches out with a helping hand and a loving heart. The Jewish Caring Network is an organization comprised of caring, compassionate individuals who are sensitive to the unique needs of each individual they help.
Please sponsor me so I can help raise the funds needed to help alleviate the stress that families must face on a daily basis so they can fully concentrate on taking care of their loved one.
I am running in honor of my sister Susan, Shoshke Genendle bas Aaron Leib, who died last year at the young age of 68 from a massive stroke. She was a passionate and caring nurse, who made her patients and everyone around her laugh. She would give you the shirt off her back and the last dollar in her wallet, even if it meant having to borrow it from you later. She loved her family. She is sorely missed. May the tzadoka (charity) that is given be an Aliya for her neshama.
I am also running in memory of Bonnie Lynn Gracer, who courageously battled Cancer to the end and inspired us to fight for what's right- despite the odds, to always maintain an optimistic perspective, and above all to always be grateful for what we've been given and find a way to share it.
I am also running in memory of Miriam (Micky) Brown, who died unexpectedly last winter. She was almost 94 years young and lived a life full of compassion and activism. I had the pleasure of having her as a roll model for over 50 years, she modeled being a caring teacher and kindhearted person who was passionate about tikun olam (reparing the world) I learned so much from being in her home while I was growing up, she is missed.
