Description
Fly By Night Duathlon
The Formula 1 Duathlon is staged on one of the most historic and well-known race tracks in the country. Watkins Glen International hosts the only NASCAR event in New York State and has its roots in Formula 1 racing. Our Formula 1 race at The Glen is a run-bike-run-bike-run duathlon taking place on Porsche Clash weekend. We take the track following the event with Pit Row serving as transition. Added to the event in 2017 is the Classic Du - run-bike-run duathlon on the same legendary course.
A One of a Kind Event!
The race starts at 6:00pm. There will be ample warm-up time on the track while our Pit Crew jumps over the wall to set up transition in pit lane.
“Let me start out with one single statement. This was a freakin' awesome event... pulling out of the staging area and turning down the front straight of one of the world's most famous racetracks - while perched on a bicycle - gave me goosebumps. The track was FAST. And NICE. Big, HUGE, wide sweeping banked corners. Nice descents and a few nice climbs.”
The Course
1.7 mile run - 10.2 mile bike - 1.7 mile run - 10.2 mile bike - 1.7 mile run
Bike Course
The Fly by Night bike course takes place entirely on the twisting, turning race track of Watkins Glen International. The track varies from 36' to 48' wide and has a 6° bank at all turns except turn 9S/5L, which is 10°. Elevation changes from a low of 1,460' above sea level to 1,575', including one larger hill in "The Boot."
One loop around the race track is 3.4 miles long and you will complete the loop three times on every bike leg. There are two bike legs in the race, making the total biking distance for the entire race 20.4 miles.
Run Course
The Fly by Night run course follows roads and pathways along the infield of the race track itself. Athletes will have views of the track and the fertile farmland and gorges of the valley beyond. The run course begins flat and fast down Pit Row before turning towards the infield, through the pedestrian tunnel under the race track, and finally over the footbridge back onto the track at transition.
The run loop is 1.7 miles long and you will complete the loop three times - once for each leg of the race. Total running distance for the entire race is therefore 5.1 miles.
