The Moose Loop Trail Challenge, sponsored by Exerplay, Inc., celebrates the world-class urban trails that loop around the city of Anchorage, in the shape of a moose! Participants of all ages and abilities choose to run, walk, bike, or roll on the Moose Loop trails in Anchorage (or anywhere). This is a fun untimed event with no results or packet pick up. The weeklong challenge is an annual fundraiser for the Anchorage Park Foundation and opportunity to hit the trails in the shoulder season.
When: September 23-30, 2023
Where: Anywhere along the 32-mile Moose Loop trail system in Anchorage, or anyplace
Challenges: Choose to bike, walk, run or roll a 5K, 10K, Mini Moose (25.75K), or Mighty Moose (51.5K Moose Loop)
Why: Our trails are a great way to stay active, healthy, and happy all year long

We are taking a break from T-shirts this year and are designing a beautiful commemorative sticker instead! Every participant will get this sticky badge of honor as well as a chance to win an Apple Watch donated by GCI and other cool swag from Skinny Raven, Bear Tooth Theatrepub, and The Alaska Club. Stickers will be mailed out after the event when the dust settles and (hopefully) before the snow falls.

Anchorage has one of the best urban trail systems in the country, with hundreds of miles of paved multi-use trails connecting neighborhoods, parks, and businesses across the city. Linking existing trails and city streets forms a 32-mile urban greenway loop in the shape of a moose! Use this interactive Google map to plan your 5K, 10K, Mini Moose routes, or navigate the full Moose Loop. Read detailed directions for connecting the trails into Moose Loop.
The Anchorage Park Foundation mobilizes public support and leverages financial resources for Anchorage parks, trails, and recreation opportunities. Our programs and initiatives focus on promoting healthy lifestyles, addressing inequalities in access to public lands, and empowering community members to advocate for a vibrant park system. As a small nonprofit, we work in the space between local government and the people of Anchorage to build community around parks and trails. Our work ensures that all residents and visitors, regardless of income, ethnicity, or special needs, benefit from our world-class trail system and network of public parks.
