Description

2 Peaks, 30+ Miles, 1 Week of Trail Fun!!

AKtive Camp 231 may be described as a foundational training camp for high school runners but it is so much more than that. It is an exploration of nature, a challenge to push limits, and a chance to forge lasting friendships.

Campers will receive quality coaching in both mountain and trail running form, technique, and endurance by local high school cross country coaches Rhonda Knopp and Norm Rousey who have a combined experience of over 40 years of coaching youth and adult runners throughout Alaska.

AKtive Camp will challenge our teen runners in skill, endurance and fortitude as well as provide learning opportunities about proper training, fueling, and safety involved in long distance and high altitude running. Campers will get to know local trails and gain confidence running through the Alaskan wilderness. They will also receive tips and training advice from local guest speakers and endurance athletes and have opportunities to participate in orienteering and wilderness safety activities.

Why Trail Running?

Trail running isn't just about the miles covered; it's a holistic experience that nurtures physical fitness, mental resilience, and a profound connection with the great outdoors. Our camp is designed to introduce young minds to the joy of running amidst nature's wonders, promoting a healthy, active lifestyle while fostering a love for adventure.

Camp Highlights:

Trail Adventures: Embark on a new trail each day and discover some of the best running trails the MatSu Valley has to offer. Our experienced guides and coaches will lead participants through a variety of terrains, ensuring every run is an exploration.

Trail Techniques: Learn essential trail running techniques from seasoned coaches. From uphill climbs to downhill descents, participants will master the art of navigating diverse terrains safely and efficiently.

Outdoor Skills: Beyond running, campers will develop valuable outdoor skills. From basic navigation to Leave No Trace principles, they'll gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the natural world.

Team Building: Forge bonds with fellow campers through team-building activities and group challenges. Together, they'll conquer obstacles, share victories, and create memories that last a lifetime.

Campfire Stories: Gather around the campfire for stories, laughter, and a celebration of daily achievements. It's a time for reflection, camaraderie, and building a sense of community among young adventurers.

Camp Games and Activities: In addition to running, we've planned a variety of fun activities to keep the energy high and spirits higher. From scavenger hunts to outdoor games, every moment is a chance for laughter and camaraderie.

Camp Registrations:

There are two options for registration this year.

Full Camp ($600) includes overnight accommodations at Mountain Streams Lodge, meals, and transportation to and from trailheads each day. Campers will arrive Monday, June 3rd at 8:30am and be picked up on Friday, June 7th by 3:00pm.

Day Only ($300) will include participation on the trails each day with campers being responsible for their rides to and from the trailheads. Campers will arrive to the assigned trail each day at 9:00am and leave at 2:00pm. They will still receive all of the coaching, skills training and activities for the day but will not stay overnight or participate in extra evening activities at the B&B. (We are providing this option for kids who may need to work during the evenings or do not feel comfortable staying overnight. Please get in touch with us if cost is a prohibiting factor of your child doing the Full Camp.)
