Description

Since 2018, the Anniston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated hosted The National Day of Red for Women's event to raise aware about heart disease, educating you on the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and/or stroke.  This event usually consists of a health fair, a catered lunch, presentations by medical professionals and survivors.  Proceeds from the event are donated to the American Heart Association on behalf of the Delta Sigma Theta Anniston Alumnae Association.  However, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic this years event will consist of a virtual GO RED program via Zoom on February 5, 2021 as well as a virtual 5K where a portion of the proceeds from the race will be donated to the American Heart Association. (Please visit our website annistonalumnaedst.org for additional information regarding our Zoom presentation on Feb 5th).

Heart disease is the No.1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally.  Even when those conditions don't result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life.  Exercise increases your levels of HDL cholesterol, the "good cholesterol that lowers heart disease risk by flushing the artery-clogging LDL or "bad" cholesterol out of your system. By running or walking we can come together as a virtual community to get our hearts pumping, give back to a worthy charity, share with our communities and HAVE FUN!!

Between now and February 5th run or walk a 5K (3.1 miles) on your own time, outside or on a treadmill.  All participants will be included in a raffle to win prizes.
