Calling all animal lovers! The Auburn University Chapter of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) is hosting its fourth annual 5K. This year the race will be called the Rabies Run and participants are encouraged to dress in their best Halloween costumes! Half of the proceeds from this race will go to Lee County Humane Society for rabies vaccines and any other necessary items for the dogs and cats. The other half will go to Pet Peace of Mind, an organization that provides pet care for terminally ill hospice patients. The race will begin in the beautiful Town Creek Park of Auburn, Alabama on Saturday, October 13th, at 8:00 am. Registration includes the following: 5K run or 1 mile fun run, t-shirt, food/drinks, and lots of fun! Bring your dogs and have a great time! (Please do not bring intact males, in heat females, aggressive dogs, or any dog that is not up to date on vaccinations.)
Race packet pickup: Pickup will be on race day, starting at 7:00am and will be open until 15 minutes prior to the start of the race (am) at Town Creek Park. This is where you will get your t-shirts and participant bags!
Registration details: Registration will be $25 until October 5th. From October 6th to October 12th, the price will increase to $30. In order to guarantee a free T-shirt, you must register by October 1st. After this date, extra T-shirts will be first come, first serve. Day of registration will end at 7:30am on October 13th and will cost $40
Winner Categories: In case anyone needs some motivation, awards will be given to the top 3 male and female participants of the 5K. We will also have an award for the 1st male and female with a dog. The award ceremony will be starting around 9:00am.
Parking at Town Creek Park: There are limited parking spaces at Town Creek Park and it is estimated for these spots to fill quickly. We have been advised by Auburn Parks and Rec to utilize Wrights Mill Road School parking lot which conveniently has a walking trail straight to Town Creek Park! If available and weather permitting, additional parking will be located in the grassy field at the park. If you have friends participating in the 5K, please try to arrange carpooling with them in order to cut down on the number of cars.
Race Route: The official race route has been added to the 5K runsignup page for your viewing; the race begins and ends within Town Creek Park.
Bring your dogs! Remember, this is a dog friendly 5K and we encourage everyone to bring their fur babies on Saturday. Please do not bring intact males, in heat females, aggressive dogs, or any dog that is not up to date on vaccinations.
