Crisis Center, Inc. is proud to present the sixth annual Just A Call Away. Also, this year the Crisis Center, Inc. is celebrating its 50th anniversary! That's 50 years of bringing hope and healing to our community, and we look forward to the next 50! This year's event will be a celebration of the important work of the Crisis Center, Inc., but as with many other things in 2020, it's going to look different. Our team has been brainstorming and exploring new approaches to 5K racing with an emphasis on safety for all runners. With that in mind, we have two options for you this year: a virtual challenge and a live chip-timed 5K with a flex start time. You can choose to do the virtual challenge, the live chip-timed option, or BOTH! Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome.
The Crisis Center, Inc. is committed to providing 24-hour compassionate care to serve the unmet needs of people experiencing personal crisis or mental health issues in our area -- and they've been doing this for 50 years! To celebrate, we want to say "thank you" in a BIG way and aim higher than we originally thought possible. Can we collectively run 1,000 miles for every year that Crisis Center, Inc. has served our community?! That's 50,000 miles! Will this be an easy goal to reach? No. But do we believe that our community of supporters is capable? Yes! All of us are affected by crises. And all of us can help. Each step you take for this challenge will honor the connection, healing, and hope that the Crisis Center, Inc. has brought to our community for the past 50 years, and that they are committed to bringing for the next 50 years as well!
How to Submit Virtual Miles: You can submit as many miles as you run or walk from the day you register until September 30th to help us reach our 50,000 Miles for 50 Years goal. To enter your miles, visit your profile on RunSignup and click Submit Virtual Results. Or click here to find your name, where you can also find the Submit Virtual Results option. Each day you run or walk, you may submit the number of miles from that day. All miles beginning July 21st can be counted. If you would like to be considered for top distance prizes, you must complete Load Activity from File on each run submitted. We have until September 30th to hit 50,000 miles!
In addition to our 50,000 Miles for 50 Years virtual challenge, we are providing an in-person 5K option on race day, August 29th. How will it work? From 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., you may arrive at any time to race your 5K. The course will be an out-and-back with a chip-timed start and finish. Your time starts when you cross the start line. The start time is flexible within the 3-hour window to help avoid any crowds or gathering at the start line. There will be one water stop at the halfway point. You will pick up your bib from the volunteers when you arrive at the start line. Please wear a mask to pick up your bib and follow the directional signs on the ground to maintain distance from other participants. There will be no gathering at the end of the race, but you will get your official time and an air high five from us! Location: 1800 S Lakeshore Drive, Homewood, AL 35216.

About Crisis Center Inc.:
Just A Call Away 5k benefits Crisis Center, Inc., which serves the unmet needs of people experiencing personal crisis or mental health issues and respond with services that promote coping, emotional health and well being.
1. Volunteers must wear a mask when they are within 6' of other people. Participants must wear a mask to pick up their packet. Hand sanitizer and gloves will be available for volunteers and participants. Registration and packet pickup areas will have 6' markings on the ground so that those in line can maintain their distance.
2. The live chip-timed race will use a flex start time. Runners may start at any time, from 6 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The finish line will close at 9 a.m. Your time will be clocked using a chip attached to your bib. Your time starts when you cross the start line. The course is an out and back, so when you cross the line again on your return trip, your time stops.
3. For water stations, extra tables will be utilized to spread out supplies, and cups will be spread out to avoid touching. Volunteers will not hand water to runners. Volunteers will use gloves and masks when filling water cups and placing them on the table.
4. At the finish line, volunteers will wear masks and gloves. Volunteers will remind participants and supporters to avoid crowding. There will be water and electrolyte beverages at the finish. No other food will be served. There will not be restrooms available at the start/finish.
