Mission Hope Moonshot Dash for Kids
Event Description
Join us on May 8, 2027, at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, for the inaugural Mission Hope 5K: Rocket City Run for Pediatric Brain Cancer Research.
Mission Hope is more than a race—it's a movement to accelerate research, support children and families, and bring hope to those facing one of childhood's deadliest diseases.
Pediatric brain cancer is the leading cause of disease-related death in children. Tumors such as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) and Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG) remain among the most devastating diagnoses a family can receive, with few effective treatment options and no cure. Children battling these diseases urgently need better treatments, more research, and the hope that comes with scientific discovery. Their families need a community that stands beside them every step of the way.
Hosted by Princess Hailey's Hope Foundation, Mission Hope raises funds to support innovative pediatric brain cancer research while providing meaningful support for Alabama children and families navigating these unimaginable diagnoses.
There is no more fitting place for this mission than the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Huntsville helped change the course of history through innovation, collaboration, and the relentless pursuit of the impossible. The connection is also deeply personal. Before becoming the first person to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong experienced the unimaginable loss of his two-year-old daughter, Karen, who died from an inoperable brainstem tumor that would likely be recognized today as DIPG or another diffuse midline glioma. Her story is a powerful reminder that behind every diagnosis is a child with dreams, a family searching for hope, and an urgent need for discovery.
Mission Hope is built on the belief that these children deserve a moonshot—the same bold thinking, determination, and spirit of innovation that once made lunar exploration possible. We believe the next great breakthrough can come when communities, researchers, physicians, families, and supporters unite around a common mission.
Whether you run, walk, volunteer, sponsor, or cheer from the sidelines, every step helps fund research, support families, honor the children we have lost, and bring hope to those still fighting.
Together, we can take one small step toward a future where no child loses their life to pediatric brain cancer.
100% of race proceeds support pediatric brain cancer research and family support programs through Princess Hailey's Hope Foundation.
