TRIblossomwood is a reverse triathlon (run -then- bike -then- swim) for kids 14 and under. There are four age categories so even the little-bitties will have their own race! The run and bike are held on mostly flat neighborhood roads-these roads are NOT closed to car traffic. The race finishes in the pristine waters of the Blossomwood Pool.

Helmet Check and Packet Pick Up will be held at Bicycle Cove in Madison on Thursday July 27th and in Owens Cross Roads on Friday July 28th from 2:30-5pm (both days).

Pelicans (ages 5 and under) will run .1 mile, bike .33 mile and swim* about 15 yards.
Sharpfin (ages 8 and under) will run .5 mile, bike 1.5 miles and swim 50 yards.
Yellowstripe (ages 9-11) will run .75 mile, bike 2.6 miles and swim 100 yards.
Sawtooth (ages 12-14) will run .75 mile, bike 5.2 miles and swim 150 yards.

*Pelicans will be "swimming" in the little pool at Blossomwood. They will have the option of swimming in the "deep" end (about 3') or walking in the shallow end. Pelicans can use swim aides (such as a Puddle Jumper).

Short pool noodles and kick boards will be provided if needed to Pelicans and Sharpfin; NO swim aides allowed for Yellowstripe or Sawtooth age groups.

Strategy:

  • Only Pelicans and Sharpfin will be allowed to use training wheels and/or floatation devices. Kids participating in the Yellowstripe and Sawtooth age divisions will need to know how to swim and bike without the use of aides.
  • Because this is a reverse triathlon, kids will need to practice swimming when tired. If kids can swim the distance when fresh, it doesn't guarantee they can swim it after running and biking.

Spectator Tips: Enjoy the start and finish of the run and bike legs of the race in front of the pool and watch as the athletes swim to the finish. Bring chairs or a blanket and a canopy to stay out of the sun.
