Description
New 5k Racecourse and Fun Run for 2024!!!
See race maps below.
5K race and fun run benefiting students with special learning needs. This race is put on by the Knights of Columbus Council 10232 and Council 17519 of Madison. 100% of the proceeds goes to Madison City Schools. This is part of a nationwide campaign put on by the Knights of Columbus.
Since we support the whole of Madison City Schools, the race begins and ends at the Madison City Stadium next to the Madison City Schools admin building and runs through downtown Madison. A big shout out to the city of Madison for allowing this, and to the Madison Police Department for supporting the race. As always, our effort is to support Madison schools' intellectual disabilities programs. Know that by participating, you are contributing to your local community. We especially want to give a shout-out to those who have participated in the past and we hope that you will continue to support our race and the students of the Special Education Program of Madison City Schools. If you cannot participate, please do consider offering a donation. Every little bit helps!

Announcing the 2024 Tootsie Roll 5k Race Ambassador!
Meet 16-year-old Briley Burden, our 2024 race ambassador. She was born with a rare genetic disorder, Angelman Syndrome, diagnosed just before her 3ʳᵈ birthday. AS is where her amazing and happy personality comes from.
She entered the Madison City Schools at Rainbow Elementary in 5ᵗʰ grade and later attended Discovery Middle School. Her favorite activity at both schools was helping run a coffee cart to bring snacks and smiles to the teachers.
Briley now attends James Clemens where she enjoys riding the bus and eating lunch. Special Olympics Basketball has been a great way for her to shine. She loves playing ball but mostly looks forward to showing off her dance moves at halftime.
Outside of school, Briley is a super star wherever she goes. She loves a stage, going to church and visiting her grandparents. Briley lives with her parents, Blake and Kerry, as well as her twin brother, Nicholas. She is a happy girl full of joy and loves her people.
New "Nook" to be Featured on the Day of the Race this Year
Dr. Ed Nichols, Madison City Schools superintendent, is shown seated in the "Nook" in the photos below receiving the 2023 race donation checks from the Knights of Columbus Councils 10232 and 17519, and from the St. John the Baptist Church's Ladies Auxiliary. The 6th Annual Tootsie Roll 5k raised just over $10,000 total in support of Madison City Schools special education programs. Past contributions helped to raise the funds that were used to purchase the seating area shown in the photos. Called the "Nook," this seating area is designed to absorb ambient noise and create a calming environment for the occupants. The "Nook" will be available to view and experience at the Madison City Stadium during the race this year.

See How Your Support Makes a Difference in Our Community!
On September 9th, 2022, members of the Knights of Columbus Council 10232 and 17519 visited the Discovery Middle School special ed classroom to meet the teachers and children, and to see how they have benefited from the funds generated by the Tootsie Roll 5k.
In 2021, funds raised from the race were given to the Discovery Middle School special education teachers for purchasing equipment for their classroom. They were also used to fund a coffee cart for the Panther Perks program. Special ed students use the cart to sell coffee to faculty and staff while learning communication skills, as well as counting money and making change.
