Description
What better way to celebrate our region and show off Little Rock's public art than with a 501 Day, 5.01k? Downtown Little Rock Partnership and the City of Little Rock are hosting the city’s first-ever public art walk/run. This is not an organized race with a set start time. By downloading the RaceJoy App, participants will be guided on the designated route with audio descriptions of the murals, sculptures, and art as they approach each one. This is not intended to be a race, but rather a jog or walk through Little Rock’s public art scene. As you participate, please use sidewalks, crosswalks, the River Trail, and other pedestrian infrastructure.
The 5.01k course has been designed to take participants past as much public art as possible. The route will start at the corner of 4th Street and Main Street and begin heading north on Main Street. The route will end near the "Playtime" mural, about a block south of the start. On the route, participants will have the opportunity to see the following public art:
- “Playtime” by Jason Jones (Capitol Ave. & Main St.)
- “Robot” by Jason Jones (East 3rd St. & Main St.)
- “Peace” by Lorri Acott
- Butterfly Mural in the River Market by Youri Cansell
- Riverfront Park sculptures, throughout the park including the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden
- Robinson Performance Hall Architecture (426 W. Markham St.)
- “In the Wings” by Jane DeDecker and Alyson Kinkade (426 W. Markham St.)
- “Let the Music Play” by Kathleen Caricof (426 W. Markham St.)
- “City Dreamers” by Joel Boyd (W. 6th St. & Spring St.)
- “Talk with Your Hands” by Arkansas School for the Deaf Students (600 Block of Center St.)
- “Golden Harvest” by Matt McLeod (E. 10th St. and Main St.)
- “Yes We Can” by Steven Otis (1500 S. Main St.)
- “SoMa” by Shannon Wallace Norman (1201 S. Main St.)
- “Beneath The Surface” by Matt McLeod (W. 6th St. & Main St.)
As you cool down, share your selfies or pictures of your favorite art on the route with @DowntownLR and @CityLittleRock with the hashtags #501PublicArtRun and #ExploreLR.
