Walk for Payne

On November 17 from 8:00 to 11:00 AM the 2012 Walk for Payne will be held at the Vilonia High School track. This event is in honor of Angela Payne, a senior at VHS who has battled cancer the past 5 years. All proceeds will go to Angels for Angela Pillowcase Ministry.

You can help encourage Angela in the latest round of her fight by joining us at the Walk for Payne! We can't walk a mile in Angela's shoes, but we can walk a mile (or more) in her honor. We're asking for a $25 donation that you can pay yourself, or seek sponsors to pay. You can sign up through this website or bring your donation to the track on November 17th, then walk or run as little or as long as you like in support of this special young lady.

Angela was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the 8th grade. She has battled the disease ever since. She entered her junior year in 2011 after her doctors declared her cancer-free, but only weeks later a routine scan revealed the cancer had returned. Months of chemotherapy and radiation took care of the tumors and Angela entered her senior year, this year, full of hope.

After only a couple of weeks at school, she began losing weight and getting weak. Doctors have placed her on a feeding tube and she is currently unable to handle the rigor of attending school. She was selected to the homecoming court and hopes to participate in the ceremony on October 12.

Angela is a fighter and an inspiration to many. She and her family have held strong to their Christian faith throughout this battle. Those of us whom she has inspired hope to give a little somthing back to this beautiful young lady who has stayed so strong for so long.

So, in her honor, the Mu Alpha Theta chapter of Vilonia High School will hold the second Walk for Payne to benefit Angels for Angela, a ministry she began to help other children suffering with cancer. Angela and her family use the funds collected to purchase colorful sewing materials for pillowcases. Volunteers sew and embroider the pillowcases which are then distributed to young cancer patients at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Angela says the long stays in the drab environs of a hospital room are made more tolerable when brightened by the colorful pillowcases. And she speaks from personal experience.
